    transmission case ??

yesterday a person was looking at my bike and said, oh I see you have an early transmission
I said no its the original,
(and I know it is so as I know the hole history of the bike and numbers match and the original owner is a friend)
he then said, well in 78 they moved to a tranny with the ribbed case and it was stronger and had beefier bearings

I actually thought the ribbed case started much later, with different splines and the dreaded cir-clip problem, Ive never heard about the beefier bearings, but I really dont know

its not that I really care, just wondering

    the bike is a 78 R80 with a build date of 7/77

    Transmission Case

The ribbed case was introduced in 1979. You're right, they're wrong.

    Wouldn't 7/77 make it a '77 model? The '78 models were built beginning 9/77.
