I have a question regarding the BMW supplied tool kit : are the two tools next to the lug wrench (the second and third pocket from left) supposed to fit together?
They look like they might, to provide extra leverage, but mine don't.

Can you provide a picture so we know for sure what you are refering to?

Well, the toolkit on my oilhead was poorly cobbled together by BMW (the tools matched the picture in the kit, but weren't necessarily the right tools for the bike), but I'll take a stab at it since I don't know for sure what your kit looks like.
One of the three is the spark plug socket (has a hole crosswise in one end to put the screwdriver through to turn it), one is the lug wrench for the rear wheel bolts, and the other tubular piece (with one end squashed flat) is an extension for the lug wrench (the flat area providing a place for your hand).

The flat end also fits over the flat hook wrench handle for adjusting the shock absorber preload.
My other bike is a BMW.
