    EWS - Get it done!

Lost my EWS virginity on Friday August 29th at 8:34 am in East Margaree, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

BMW should be pulling all bikes with this issue ASAP and have them corrected. In Canada it's not a recall but rather a service update (or something to that effect). When the bike comes in then it gets done. In the meantime have fun if and when it happens.

After a very long (500 km) tow to Atlantic Motoplex in Moncton on friday afternoon and evening the bike was delivered to the shop first thing in the morning and the antenna ring was replaced and the bike washed within an hour on a Saturday and, to top it off, the technician came in on his day off to do the work.

The thought that some bikes may not get it done asap because it's not a recall borders on the criminal.

To those who are planning to visit our maritime provinces Atlantic Motoplex is the only BMW dealer in the area. Stop by for a visit it's worth it.

As a side note I found the Emergency service provided by BMW service customer representatives to be examplary.

But all in all it was a good, if not wet, trip.

    Good luck.

PS: The R1200RT's are the easiest to fix.

I can't argue with your thought that BMW should address this with all bikes effected, but a "recall" is saved for a safety issue.

So far - I haven't heard a plausable scenerio where the EWS failure is a safety problem (perhaps the farmer in the farmer's daughter story, armed with shotgun chasing our BMW rider who hops on his trusty hexhead, only to see EWS! Worst case - he has to marry her.)

Glad to hear there is good service availble in Nova Scotia since that's on my list of places to ride.

BMW roadside was WORTHLESS when my EWS failed at 641 miles. They couldnt find anyone who would "accept" the tow from them...but....if I wanted to PAY for a tow they found someone who would move my bike 35 miles for $291.

    definitely not a recall

It took me 3 trips to the dealer to get them to schedule the ring antenna replacement. First time they were not "up to speed" on what to do, then they were out of parts and would call me, finally they had everything and could work me in.

Now I am going through the same thing with the brake recall.....waiting for them to check on parts (it's been 2 weeks).

It would seem prudent, if there is another dealership in your area to start cultivating a relationship with them. Sounds as if the one you're frequenting doesn't put service as a priority.

Depending on where and when you break down and odds are you will the difference between a safety recall and a service update is an argument that you cannot and will not care for. I'll think of the poor person who dumps the clutch in congested traffic and cannot restart the bike when a truck is coming down at them.

Only problem with this is that my local dealer specifically indicated that if I were to get the EWS message it would not leave me stranded. Now that's funny. They'll be getting an ear full at lunchtime.

If the bike starts - RIDE IT!

    Still love the bike.

Atlantic Motoplex is in New Brunswick. It's the only dealer in all of eastern Canada.

Hey the bike made me visit a great dealership.

In that scenario, if the bike doesn't start, it won't be due to EWS. The bike only reads the code in the key when you switch the key from off to on.
