It was a Dusey (as in Dusenberg)

Yesterday I picked up my brother on his almost vintage Honda (he bought it last year for a song with 7,000 miles on it - I believe it is an '85).
We went to the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan.

    www.gilmorecarmuseum.org

We got lucky - The Grand Experience car show was in progress. We saw some out-freakin-rageous cars. There were 16-18 Dusenbergs (they each weigh in at 3/4 of a million or so.)

To start at the start: Here is my brother warming up his Honda prior to take off.

    Once we got there

We were greeted by a fleet of Dusenbergs and Rolls and Packards and Lincolns and Caddies.
I was drooling and reaching for the oxygen bottle. Oh, the weather was perfect - we had 72 raindrops later in the afternoon, but it was nice and sunny.

Here are a couple of the Duseys.

Not all the action was outside

The Car Museum has several barns (which are beautiful pieces of work in their own right) chock full of cool cars, trucks and auto related goodies.
Here is one that made me think of The Kook (my cold weather riding mentor).

It is a '37 Hudson Terraplane Pick-up. MMMM-mmm, with nice oak lining the bed.

Met Tom Guilbault and his sweetie

her name was Brenda Bartley. Tom works for Classic and Exotic Service, Inc. in Troy, Michigan.
They restore cars. One of them is the 1934 Brunn Riviera you see below. Brenda was fortunate enough to drive the car in the parade. She said, "It was fabulous - its like driving history."
She could handle the length of the car on account of her 16 years experience driving a school bus.
Tom answered a bunch of our questions - he does just about anything on the restorations except for "the heavy mechanical work."

Here is the pretty end of a

1948 Jaguar Mark IV Drophead Coupe.

Did I mention that Mike and I made it an official Marshmallow Butt gig by getting sidetracked (not LOST) on a dirt road or two (three actually) for about 6 miles. First time for such a run on the Rockster.

Gilmore has a room full of Hudsons

Here is another one: 1936 Convertible Coupe.

They have a Ford barn, one full of cars from "the other motor city: Kalamazoo". In there are Checkers and a bunch from the Barley Motor Car Company

    One more Dusey

Well, we motored around on M-43. A fun road, especially when you get to go around the lakes and they toss in lots of curves.

All told we were gone for 6 hours, but we only put 129 miles on the clock. We did both lose 4.5 lbs on account of the constant drooling.

BTW - next Sunday (June 13th) the BMW Club of Battle Creek is hosting a vintage bike show. Guess I know where I'm heading....

This one is a 1929 Convertible Victoria. Mmmm-mmm, it won a blue ribbon.
