    Depth Gauge

GM List. I'm losing my crown bearing(28k miles on 2nd bearing) again and the bike is out of warranty. I've read thru the BMW manual on the shimming procedure. I don't own a depth gauge and need a recommendation for a not to expensive one that can do the job. I want to do a preload on the lite end of the range .002in. Can I trust one from Harbor Freight??? or Sears??

    Thanks list

A depth gage is easy to check. Set it / press it on a flat surface (such as a heavy glass plate, or a bench saw table etc) & see that it reads zero properly. If not, offset any readings accordingly. I'd go for the HF one.
