    Transmission level

An aftermarket book I've got said to check the trans level with the bike on the side stand as opposed to the center stand. Just wanted to see if anyone could confirm this is the correct procedure. Thanx!

I tried that once, and then had it over to the dealer later some additional service. They said that they had to drain some fluid out as it was 'way over full". They (the service tech and manager) said to fill it when on the center stand, and on level ground. That is how I have done it ever since.

Check it while on the centerstand.
Best to just put the correct amount in when you change it, then you never have to check it.

+1. Have bike on centerstand and drain the fluids when they are hot.

I measure the fluid that comes out when I drain the tranny (and final drive) as a way to look for fluid loss. In 100,000 miles they have never been low.

hmm, i find that VERY surprising, as my Clymer's clearly states that you put it on the centerstand or auxilliary stand (meaning a lift of some type, not the side-stand) to check the level. Is yours the 700+ page Clymer's, isbn1-59969-040-3? if so, see pg 59.
