    Chrome Head engine swap

Has anyone swapped the OEM R1200C for a more powerful Oilhead engine?

Check out the Chromeheads site... There are few people who did some mods like new cranks etc. One "C" reportedly does 140+ (I couldn't imagine doing 140+ on any ride!)
The "C" has power... It's just measured in torque.
I do 105 easily... Why though... I roll through the countryside 50-60 mph in complete comfort. I've spent 30 years leaning forward on a bike... Time to kick back relax, legs up and cruise...
It pulls the Ural at 70+ w/ no problems either.

The C was designed with all the characteristics of a tractor.

The engineering of the C was also set up for its low torque and hp.
You would do better getting another bike like I did that was made to handle the higher hp and MPH, and curves.

The FJR I have can easily do 150+, the K1200's , ZX14, the same.

I am looking to put a 3 point hitch on my Leper C, to replace my Allis Chalmers Model C, and plow the fields with it. Hell they drive and handle the same. Although, the Allis was more dependable.

Yeah, adding car tires to a ride will do that.

I thought about pulling a lawnmower behind my hack... Adding one more benefit of ridership!

    Thanks!

This appeared on the Chromeheads site today:

I know there is much written about this item but I think it is use full to share this change. I have bought the BMW with the modifications already installed. The previous owner thought the bike was under powered and asked the former local BMW dealer to look in to it. He has made the following changes:
    Different camshafts (of the 1150)
    Injector bodies (of the 1150)
    Motor management (of the 1150)
Different air box( manufactured by the dealer)

The previous owner was very happy with the change and the dealer told me that this how BMW should have made the engine. It is still very strong at low rpm (max. torque at approx. 3000) and the power band is up to 7500 rpm. Above 5000 rpm the bike starts flying. The idle rpm is at approx. 1100 rpm at which it runs very smooth. See the photo's for more details.

    Post and photos are here...

Adding the car tire increased the Montauks handling properties.

Hmmmm, Max torque at 3000, with a GS 1150 cam? Someone might want to get your facts straight.

    Typical Chromehead misinformation.

The only way to fix a problem is to Identify it, then come up with viable solutions. Not stick your head in the sand, and then deny it exist.

As on the other site it has been noted that the Montauks handling bites, might want to check that one in your bin of facts section.

Of course every expert over there rides a Montauk.

Even with those changes the bike will be a wind-up toy. It will not have the power of a K1200 bike.

I have yet to see anyone come up with the miles per gallon with the changes stated.

Does the gas mileage increase or does it decrease.

If it decreases it creates another problem with the under sized fuel tank on the C. Your range will drop dramatically.

If you want to really increase power, the only way is to add a turbo or super, but then again the bikes rear end and final can't handle real torque, and the increased HP for long.

I don't know why anyone would want to do it. The C engine is designed and tuned for use in a cruiser and it does the job well. My R1200CLC will easily exceed 100 MPH (faster than a Harley) and the maximum torque is achieved at exactly 75 MPH (indicated) in 6th gear. I get around 40 MPG puttering around town and refuel at about 150 miles and 50 MPH on the road and refill at around 200 miles.

If I need more horsepower, I need a different bike.

Dude. Where does it say Montauk? Not here or in the linked thread.

Let's talk about identifying a problem. You had the same attitude when you were in Chromeheads fold.
Very few people agreed w/ your putting a car tire on a motorcycle.
You weren't flamed for it. Most said they wouldn't do it.
Even more said, including myself, "your bike, your rules".
You got all pissy and quit Chromheads. So what.
By all means you are entitled to an opinion. Just don't be a dick about it.
