    aftermarket w/shield

Toying with the idea of replacing the stock w/shield; would like a wider shield. Anyone have experience/comments with this?

I just put a California Scientific shield on my 1200RT and really like it. In the lowest position, I get plenty of air for those hot Dallas days. In the "proper" position of just looking over the top, I get much less buffeting and better protection than the stock shield provided. In the highest position, the protection from the elements is surprisingly good. I called them and Mark helped me choose the right size.

I have the Parabellum, tallest model on my 2008GS, winglettes added as well. It seems to work much better than the stock. Still lots of blowing on side winds but that is to be expected.

I believe they have a 30 day return if not satisfied.

+2 Makes the air real smooth and quieter. It's easier to ride with my face shield fully opened at speed.

Thanks to the advice of Greenwald I also purchased after market windshield struts from West Tool. http://www.westtoolff.com/. Whatever you decide as far as an after market windshield, you should replace the struts. The larger after market windshields can cause the stock struts on the 1200RT to fail.
Luck favors those who are prepared.

I may have missed it someplace - but it would help me understand your question if I had an idea what model Hexhead we're talking about. There are several different models..

Also - your height and inseam are useful info. Head height above the seat gives people a clue where you are in relation to the top of the shield, which can make a BIG difference. What works for a 6'11" stringbean might be awful for a 5'0" person.

    Unhappy Just commented on this

I just made a comment about this here on the gear forum. For the record I am riding an R1200RT and I am 6'1" with a 33 inseam. I am mostly torso and neck or some I am told by lots of folks.

My apology, thought of this last night after posting, it is for an RT. I'm 6'0 and about 34" inseam. Thanks for all the replies so far.

I also have a ZTechnik and like it. I have also never heard tell of anyone with a ZTechnik complaining about cracked support arms, only those who installed various other makes. That's not exactly a scientific survey, but I found it interesting.

I'm 5-9 and use a Cee Bailey +2+4 on my 05 R12RT. Put it on after the first ride in rain which was the first week. Now at over 82000 miles have no problems and really like it.

After test riding the Ztechnik and Cee Baileys I bought a CeeBaileys. Stock height, +4" on width. Since it curves near the top, even at stock height it has a lot more protection than the stock shield, which ends up giving you an even better view ahead of you. The +4" width worked out great too... just enough coverage w/o going too big. The wind just misses my shoulders.

The guys at work all test rode my bike and liked the shield enough that we convinced work to outfit all our new 1200RT-Ps with them right from the get go.

Aeroflow. It transformed my bike. Do a search and you'll find my review.
