I used Used Microsoft Streets and Trips & the process is a Charlie Foxtrot.

1. Open Microsoft Streets and Trips and select starting and ending points.
2. Have program get directions - which draws the route on the map.
3. Use the dotted box on tool bar to select area.
4. Copy area inside box to memory. (Control-C)
5. Dump memory into an art program like photoshop or Paintshop and there are others even some free ones.
6. Save image as a jpeg.

Now you have two choices
First upload to forum as an attached image

or

Upload image to smugmug, photobucket or the like
Paste link into text message on the forum

having said all the above some folks know a simpler and cheaper route using Yahoo or Google but I have that damn gene that likes doing things the hard way.

Hey Google and Yahoo experts, share the process! Please?

Just tried Yahoo maps and it very easily produced this image.



I saved the jpeg and uploaded same to photobucket.

I noticed these units on sale at Best Buy this week; couple that with the tracking freeby, I think I'm going to get one. I've had my eye on them for a bit thinking it would be a good thing for those solo GS rides I like to take; even just the local outings.

Darn - it worked just as advertised. I wish I had thought to put SPOT on the bike and take a picture. It definitely will come in handy during the Salty Fog Rally.

Best price I have seen is on Amazon for $141. There are a couple of other similar products. Has anyone used them?

Just got a SPOT report from StatDawg and was able to zoom in on his house by using GOOGLE maps.

Regarding Spots ability to send a signal with limited sky view: I took mine on a trip to France last month. While in Paris, I placed it on a table on our outdoor terrace at our hotel. The skyview was extremely narrow with buildings all around. I didn't think there was any chance of a signal getting out. When I called a friend at home, he advised me he had received the O.K. message and found the location in the Latin Quarter. It seems to do a bit better than advertised or expected.
