best time of year for trip from Ny to Calif

Anyone have any suggestions as to what would be the best monthof the year for a coast to coast trip from NY to west coast.

Best time of year in CA is Sept-early Oct. Summer crowds are gone but summer is not. Best time to see Yosemite, Disneyland, wine country, etc. If you want more ideas about CA, especially if you are camping, PM me, I've lived there 30 years and moving back in three weeks.
