    1971 R75/5 with R60/5 model identifier?

    Hello!

I just bought a 1971 R75/5 that has matching serial numbers on the frame and engine. The side of the engine casings identify the bike as a R75/5 and so does the Title but... the factory plate on the head tube has the model listed as an R60/5.

I know that BMW made both the R60/5 and R75/5 in 1971 with the only major difference being the engine size. Did BMW share frames for both the 60 and 75 making my bike a R60/5 frame with the 750cc engine or is there more to the story?

    Any advice would be appreciated!

Yes. Frames are same. Motors pretty much too 'cept for carbs, heads, barrels, pistons, etc. Somebody could have made it a 750. What kind of carbs does it have? 60/5 has slide carbs while 75/5 has concentric.

That is a cool site, thanks. I put my VIN in and it said I had a 60/5. I guess someone just added (glued) the 75/5 side plates on the original engine since the frame and engine number match. They must have then altered the title to show it as a 75/5 which seems like a lot of work with no real benefit financial or otherwise.

Thanks for the info! Is there a photo somewhere of the two different carb styles?

The typical slide carb is the middle one; the constant velocity (CV) carb is on the right...

Actually changing the title probably wasn't that hard. A clerk can change that at the title place...

Thanks guys, the bike has the CV carb. Got it running today and it is bad ass! When you're riding down the road on a great bike like the /5 who cares about small engine details!
