Anyway, how can you tell the fender is on backwards?
It's pretty subtle (typically Teutonic)... the length of the fender, from the mounting bolts to the leading tip of the fender, is slightly less in the front, than in the back. The result being that more of the tire is covered at the back and "splash up" is reduced ... sort of.

It's more obvious in joe's first pic.

Plus it looks like the front is more sharp in shape while the back is more squared off...presumably for aerodynamic reasons?

The front has a 'sharper' cut than the rear which is more blunted. The back is more square to the tire. Visually, draw in a radius (axle to tire) to either end of the fender and you'll see what I mean.

Thank you gentlemen for the kind words. My kids love the bike, the wife knew what she was getting into when we got married so she knows it's got a special place in our familiy.

Bringing 74 R90S back to life after sitting since 1979 ... parked with only 7,300 miles on the clock. purchased from the original owner's son. This bike was the 41st R90S made to USA spec's off the assembly line. one of the first R90S to hit American soil and quite possibly the lowest mileage un-molested R90S in USA.
