lowered the instruments a bunch too.

those look to be '77 RS brake calipers. but what's with the engine badge? in '78 it would have said "R100/7" rather than just the large BMW tag- that came a year or 2 later.

it's a mongrel bike. started life as an R80/7. added barrels, heads, carbs, and front end from a '77 RS parts bike. Starter cover is from a '79(no model designation). rear fender is stock BMW with the square part cut off and fiber-glassed a new contour for the Lucas style tail light.
the seat is a Corbin for a /6 with 1.5 inches cut off the front so it fits,
with a fiberglass seat cowl held on with industrial velcro.

I picked up this 1978 R100S a year ago, it had been sitting under a cover in a garage for ten years, . I gave the owner $500 for it (which is what he was asking) and got out of there before he could change his mind.
I rebuilt the top end, carburetors and brakes, replaced the clutch and did a thorough clean up. Now I have about a grand in it.
It's a keeper.

Here's a better view of the seat, cowl and tail light. I think it simplifies
the rear end look.
Nice job Jonhkuhn. I love what you've done with that bike. I particularly like what you did with the headlight and instrument cluster. Really streamlines the whole look. Can I ask how you went about it? Did you fabricate parts or are they from other manufacturers?
Many thanks and again, nice bike!

The headlight mounts are from a cafe bike parts site ( I forget which one). I slid them down the fork tubes to lower the headlight. Then I cut down the stock BMW instrument mount until the bottom of the tach/speedo is resting on the top of the headlight shell. The billet triple clamp is from San Jose BMW. Euro bars and handle bar mirror (from aerostich/rider wearhouse)

TOO CLEAN! Go find some forest access roadsReport back with some "fun & dirty" pictures.
But seriously... Wow nice bikes. I miss my R80GSPD so much. Sold it to get a VW camper for family time. Bought the R100GS to get me time, hope my wife will join me once a while, actually hope to get her riding a F650GS at some point
