    Hiya, ljr5487-

I used some science-project knobs, grade 8 bolts, big ol' 2" neoprene-lined fender washers, regular washers, and some carved-up hockey pucks. End result: panniers I may remove at my whim, in a minute or two. Details dwell here.

    Hiya, Sumran-

The diagonal braces tie in at the seat pan, and any excess deflection is damped out nicely from both the high-density polypropylene of the milk crate (high-frequency, low amplitude oscillations) and by the elastic of the bungee cords holding said milk crate (low frequency, high amplitude stuff). The velcro at the cylinder guard/frame downtube also handles helps to tie things together.

It's called engineering. Some call it "art" or "shade tree improvisational mechanics".

Some of the engineering you were kind enough to explain is too advanced for me, but I can clearly see the art influence. I like the way you have the diagonal lines converge at the back of the bike. Makes it look fast, even when it not moving! The centerstand wheelie helps the effect. I expect the ammo box box panniers guarantee the front wheel elevation on the centerstand. Again, my compliments to your special blend of liberal arts and hard science.

Here is a picture of my RS at the Washington rally this summer. She did good. One of the engraved coffee cups was for best Airhead. The others where for winning field events. And no I didn't subject the RS to doing the field events. A friend had ridden my F650CS to the rally so I used it.

My friend had ridden his R90S to the rally. He was whining that his bike didn't win anything. So we decided to award him and his bike the best whiner award. A nice cold beer.

It should seem familiar to you And NO you can't have it back

Did you see the orignal owner at the rally this year? If he was there I must have missed him.

re: R90S on page 3 ----- I have restored many antique vehicles over the last 30+ years and I can appreciate attention to detail and the planning required to execute a sanitary finished product. You definatly got my attention - EXCELLENT work, great planning and an exquisite machine.

    Thanks for sharing.

I think it would be hilarious to own one of those and wave at the HD "Legends in their own minds" crowd. They take themselves too seriously.

A 60th anniversary edition. Has 95k on the ticker. Needs a little TLC.
