yup, with its flush fuel cap any magnetic bag will work, I prefer ones that have a strap that goes around the streering stem since I pack a camera in mine, but it depends on how much/what you carry and how big the bag is.

I have a Nelson-Riggs and I am very happy with it. It was muy inexpensive and better than my Eclipse which was more money (X2) 14 yrs ago than the same size
Nelson Riggs I have now. Similar mounting system also.

I found a Harro Elafantenboy on the forum here and thot it'd look retro/good on my '78. I'd always liked the two I'd owned over the years. So I listed the cortech I'd been using "FS" on the fleamarket. But when I cleaned out the magnetic Cortech after I'd sold it, I thot, "Holy mackerel ! this is a great bag! It holds lots of stuff, organizes the stuff pretty well, simply lifts on and off the tank. Ahhh, Vanity, thy name is BMW owner.
I really like the Cortech mag bag is my point. Big, good to lean on, functional, reasonably attractive.

    Bagster

If you look in the What's in your Garage thread
    http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?t=20404
will see DarrylRi's fleet. The R90S has the tank cover with tank bag that clips on. I asked that same question and was informed that Bagster continues to make and sell this item for BMW bikes with the classic fuel tank.

FWIW my bike has a magnetic TourMaster tank bag that works fine.

    Tank bag

I use a magnetic tank bag made by Givi. I have had this bag for 6 years. I would not leave home without it. I call it my poor man's GPS with a map and pictures of my 3 kids in the map holder at all times. My Harley buddies make fun of me but deep down they wish they would use one. The Givi was a good buy(around 70 dollars) and has held up nice. A little fading but to be expected. Good luck and ride safe.

I just love the logic of that design. If the magnets won't hold it, the strap does as it flops over to one side, blocks the handlebars, and could easily cause a crash.

So the bike is trash but the "stuff" in the bag is safe, unless the bike lands on it in the crash.

For me, no thanks. If it wishes to depart the bike, so be it.

Neither problem will occur with the bag made for the bike, i.e. BMW Multivario.

Loved the Multivario for my K11RS. But did not think that BMW ever made one for the early R models, nor have I ever seen one. You sure about that?

    Sale on Marsee Bags

Sierra Trading Post has a sale on Marsee bags, they seem to have closed out one of their lines and sold their stock to Sierra Trading Post, a discounter (mostly of outdoor clothing). I purchased the 20L magnetic bag. It arrived yesterday, and I'm very happy with it. It fits well on my bike (88 R100 RT)

I bought a bag by Roadgear at the National this year. It's a magnetic tank bag for my "81 R100RT with no straps and no fuss! I rode 8 1/2 hrs. home with no shift or getting in the way. This is my first bag and it is a success. I had my wallet, bottle of water, tools, and a t-shirt with plenty of room for a little something else. Also, I could position it on my tank so that it did not affect my gas cap... it acts as a vent... good to know... good luck!
