Accident Sunday near Rally site?

Good grief! What sucky news. A fellow Gateway Rider and I were headed home on Sunday and had to detour because of that accident. At the time I did not know what had happened but I really hoped it was not a motorcycle.

Was it Dan? Argh. I'd just seen him at the Club Presidents' meeting the day before and I knew him through bicycle racing years ago.

That looked pretty serious to me! Details?

That was Sam Munn, the Commercial Vendor Chairman. He is okay and was at his duties--although in a diminished capacity--during the rally. He suffered 3 broken ribs and some road rash.

i was listening to this as i left my brother's in downtown chicago sunday morning on the Sirius Chicago traffic report. it never crossed my mind that it might have been one of the rally attendees

Sadly, here's another one.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

A couple from West Palm Beach, Fla., died today as a result of injuries
suffered in a motorcycle crash in the Town of Addison, the Washington County
Sheriff's Department is reporting.

The crash was reported at 8:24 a.m. at state Highway 33 and county Highway
WW.

Those killed were identified as William A. Rourk, 67 and Arlene N. Rourk,
65. They had attended the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America Rally at the
Washington County Fair Park this past weekend, said Sheriff's Lt. John Buck.
The event drew about 8,000 BMW enthusiasts, Buck said.

The crash occurred as the Rourks were traveling west on Highway 33 on a 1993
BMW motorcycle equipped with a sidecar. Witnesses told sheriff's
investigators that vehicles traveling in front of the motorcycle slowed and
the motorcycle driver swerved into the eastbound lane, apparently to avoid
colliding with the vehicles that were slowing.

The motorcycle struck an eastbound car driven by Susan J. Off, 43, of
Hartford, according to Buck. The Rourks were thrown from the motorcycle
which then careened into a ditch and caught fire.

The Rourks were wearing helmets. They died at the scene.

The Allenton Fire Department and Allenton Rescue Squad responded to the
scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Just a technicality, and I hate to split hairs, but the rider going to Iowa would be heading west on 60, and the report says the cager was westbound on 60, so WTH??
This is spooky for me as the bulk of my trip was on US60.

Yeah, I went home one on W. US60 and then US14. I road that exact route, however, I only went only as far at Richland Center and spent the night there. It was good to take the break and make it a two day trip.

Dan will be missed very much by everyone. All the information we have on the funeral so far is visitation is from 5-8 pm on Friday at the Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood, Iowa City, IA.

That was a minor one... a few stitches and the rider and bike were back at the rally being attended to by his wife and buds.

Mar, the accident Friday in front of the rally gate was not Sam Munn. His accident was Tuesday evening in the parking lot near the entrance to road PV. Haven't heard who was involved in the Friday accident.
