    Superbowl Commercials

Great game, especially the fourth quarter. But what about the commercials?

I thought that they started off strong early in the first quarter with Bud LightÔÇÖs ÔÇÿTwo Dogs,ÔÇÖ Federal ExpressÔÇÖ ÔÇÿAlienÔÇÖ and DodgeÔÇÖs ÔÇÿMonkey on Back.ÔÇÖ

In fact, Budweiser really dominated the entire game. Some highlights were Bud Light ÔÇÿBikini Wax,ÔÇÖ Budweiser ÔÇÿRef Getting Screamed At,ÔÇÖ and Budweiser ÔÇÿDonkey ClydesdaleÔÇÖ.I also liked the Monster.com ads and the Staples ÔÇÿRandy the Supply SupervisorÔÇÖ ad.

I was disappointed in the car commercials which tend to be good, and Nike was a total no-show. I guess that my favorite has to be VisaÔÇÖs ÔÇÿWinter VolleyballÔÇÖ which features Olympic volleyball players in the snow.

    What was your favorite? Why?

The romantic sleigh ride with candle light and Bud Lite. Why? It made me laugh. Bikini wax in second place.

    AOL Chopper Dudes

Yes, I watch the Show alot. Hey, I enjoy it for the comedy not the motorcycles per se; although those help.

The commercial were spot on with the humor I get from the show. Plus they were different than expected.

I did miss Terry Tate Office Tackle and the TPS reports though.

    Game was good

Is Janet's breast made of the same plastic as the helmets the players wear?
I think I liked the monkey on the back ad for the Dodge.
Thought the old folks in the Jays ad was lame.

Haven't watched a super bowl in years - then I remembered why. How many hours does a football game in February consume?

    I must be getting old:
I remember when the Jacksons were black and Kid Rock was white. Now I'm all confused.

    With all due respect

That (i.e. the mid-game extravaganza with music) ain't rock-n-roll. Is it?

I dunno. I have some pretty strange musical tastes, but I'd put all of that stuff in the same family as rock and roll. Rock and roll grew and evolved from the blues and the music we have today has grown out of rock and roll. Kid Rock is pretty clearly rock and roll (guitar combo, with bass and drums) though he tends to rap over the music. Janet and the like are grown right out of the R&B of the past, which in my opinion is still part of the rock and roll family.

But hey, I like Public Enemy, Soul Coughing and Miles Davis equally well so what do I know?

Remember when rock and roll was the music of rebellion? What happened to that ethic? From what I can see, it only lives in some of the better rap acts and some of the grunge bands. Most of the rest of it is about as daring as ELO.

The horse fart gets my vote hands down as the best one. It reminded me of a guy in the military that "lit one up" in polyester pants, and melted them to his "gas jet" and had to go to the infirmary. The dog ad with the retrieving pooch and the biting one was a close second. I missed the entire halftime show, not interested in halftime extravaganzas. It ended up being a great game though. After seeing the replays of the "breast incident" about 100 times today, I have no doubt it was staged, and not an accident. Why would someone wear pasties if they werent planning that stunt.

    Thumbs up AOL and Pepsi!

I'll take the AOL ads with the most disfunctional TV family since All In the Family. Too bad Archie didn't have a custom motorcycle shop, then Meathead could have played the Pauly role pretty well, er Mikey, one of the two...

The half time show = rock and roll? Unless I saw David Lee Roth jumping around in spandex, or Stevie Ray Vaughan rise from the dead, that was not rock and roll...Although Janet's little show at the end could be considered rock and roll to some extent...

Speaking of rock and roll...The Pepsi ad with the young Jimi Hendrix finding his first guitar was my second favorite...

    Rock and roll

    Dear Dave,

Rock and Roll was//is people PLAYING instruments not doing the "Lip Lock".

As a jaded TV/audio/post geek I can tell you the only person during halftime that remotely deserves props was Justin Timberlake. (I'm NOT a fan) because he's the only one that actually sang.

Kid Rock's ENTIRE band was between 3 to 5 frames ahead or behind the whole time. (US TV goes at a rate of about 30 frames per second. For you geek types i live in the 29.97 drop world).

    That wasn't rock and roll.

The best take I've seen on the fiasco so far was John Stewart on the Daily Show. My favorite comments were about Nelly.

My other favorite gauge of our national priorities is, the fact that some woman here in Tennessee (I'm SO proud) is apparently threatening to get a class action suit going against Janet Jackson. This thing's growning legs fast. I can't wait.

    (Rant mode off)

    Sorry folks.

P.S. Hendrix's first guitar was a Silvertone, the next one was a Duo-Sonic. Never seen any evidence of him with a Tele.
"Some may say that slow is good and they may be right on some days but I am here to tell you that fast is better... It will always be better to be shot out of a cannon than squeezed out of a tube, and that's why God made fast motorcycles, Bubba."

The synchronization issue is almost explainable given some of the shots and knowing how the audio/video system was configured. A few digital latency jumps before video and audio were meshed. However I know the microphone that Janet was using VERY VERY well and it would never pick her up singing with where it was positioned.

I do not think that this is rock and roll; it is a show. Doesn't make it right but puts it into a different jhanra.
