AT 6'2" and 250 lbs, 32 inseeam... I went with a Russell custom made, referred to a Russell Day Long.. I have tried other makes of custom seats, but this is a keeper for me... If you could find someone in your area that has same bike and custom seat, borrow the seat for a day or so...

I have a R1150R and have tried the BMW high and standard, a Corbin, a Sargent and now I think I have it right, a Bill Mayer. The answer is that every person has a different rear and therefore different preferences for how the seat should fit. try out as many brands as you can and ride each one for at least an hour. Otherwise you will end up like me with four unused seats in the garage. Don't even talk about shields!!!
I have a heated Corbin seat that works great for me. I guess I will mention shields. The Cee Bailey +2 inch is great. And add a set of highway pegs from Sierra BMW and you will be set.

I am only 6'1", but I too longed for a more comfortable saddle than stock BMW. After a fair amount of research, I settled on the Sargent seat, and could not be happier. Most I've done in a day is 740 miles, but felt good the entire distance.
Looked into Corbin, but too stiff and quite heavy - will add a lot of pounds to your bike.
Heard good things about Russell and Mayer, so do your own research and then, hopefully, settle in to a good saddle and many happy hours in it.

I live in Nashville, TN and have my R12GS there. I spend a lot o time in Jacksonville, FL consulting and that's where I keep the R12RT. I appreciate all of you responding. I'm a new member and already wish that I had joined sooner.

At 5'10", the stock 1200RT low seat was agony. On a scale of 1~10, it gets a 2-. I'd rate the Sargeant (low) seat as a 6 or 7, and a Rick Mayer leather seat built on the OEM pan a 9+. The big advantage of the Rick Meyer seat is that it is custom built for your physique and I was able to order the front seat only. The plus for Sargent was not having to send my pan and much quicker service.
I have had a Russell Day Long on a K 1100 LT and currently have a Corbin on my 97 R 1100 RT. Like them both. Corbin is heavier and much firmer. The Russell had springs which allowed it to be softer but still supportive. The Russell has "wings" that some find objectionable.

Before I spent big cash on a seat I purchased an Airhawk seat cushion.

What's nice about them is you can adjust the height and ride.
Hey mcollect:
Do you have any interest in ridding yourself of any of those seats for the R1150R?
Maybe try a sheepskin pad from alaskaleather.com..inexpensive, nicely made and it may save your "bacon" without having to resort to a costly seat change. They ship fast, too. I've got one on my 1200GS and it does the job for me.

You should ask someone in the Iron But.
I seem to recall that they prefer Russel.
There will be 20 people answering this with 20 different opinions, all being good but only one solution will work for you. I had a Rick Mayer seat on my LT and it was a huge improvement, but the Airhawk I have now on my GS is cheaper and better for me. I did the sheepskin thing first on my GS and that just didn't do it for me.
Some riders use those beads and like that option. All butts are different and if at all possible you should sit on different seats and options for at least an hour each and than pick what you like the best. Just some pennies here.
