    Removing/reinstalling roundels and badges

The tank bag used by the bike's previous owner has scraped most of the "BMW" off the roundels on the tank. I'm thinking about replacing them. How do you remove the old roundels and badges and affix the new ones? Are they adhesive? Do I need to use epoxy? Will I need a power chisel to remove the old abused roundels?

I realize this post is applicable to all models, but since I have a K bike, I thought I'd post it here.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I've heard of people using dental floss and sawing them off. Maybe in conjunction with heat from a hair dryer or low, low, low setting on a heat gun?

I've had good luck with trim or weatherstripping adhesive.

You mean I shouldn't point a heat gun at the gas tank for prolonged periods of time?

The gas tank won't care about the heat gun. Compared to how hot the recirculated fuel in the tank gets on a 90F day, three minutes of focused heat won't be a problem.

I use the dental floss method to remove the old ones.

Well I was attempting sarcasm with my comment about using a heat gun on a gas tank, but I appreciate your remarks.

I will definitely try the dental floss routine to remove the old badges. Thanks for the advice!

I was thinking of the damage to the paint, not the garage disappearing in a ball of fire. Safety is not exactly my strong point.

    Removing /Reinstalling badges

    dvandkq,
Try wd40 and popsicle stick- ground down the edge to a sharp edge spray on wd40. Pull off badge or roundel, uses other end on stick to take off the extra foam.
Clean off area with isopropyl alcohol, you can rough up a little of the area with fine sand paper re clean- mount badge. Or mount badge as is. All BMW badges and roundels I've used had double side tape/foam on them. Can not speak for ones without mounting tape or foam.

Thanks Joe - that's exactly the information I was hoping to find here. Knowing that the stuff is all backed with self-adhesive foam tape makes my decisions and job much easier.

    Thanks again,
