the instructions above are excellent... but for a pc! I am one of the few (< 1%) with a mac, and when posting a picture, the pixels are too many, so I guess I must re-size, somehow. Does anyone know how to do this, ie with mac's iphoto? thx!

In iPhoto, choose the picture (or pictures) you want, and select Export from the Share menu.
In the File Export dialog, choose JPG as the file format, select the radio button for Scale images no larger than: and enter something like 600 or 800 for both the width and height.
There are some options along the right-hand side of the dialog for file naming. If you've added titles to your photos in iPhoto, you can select that as the picture's name. Because you can export mutliple pictures at once, iPhoto names everything automatically. Be sure to have Use Extension checked.
Click the Export button. Now you can take the file you've exported and upload it.
