That is why I love my old reliable Garmin 478, Life time maps, screen bright enough to see in full sun with sunglasses on, can operate with gloves, and all the other issues are non issues with it.

I carry maps, but use them less and less. They do give a big picture view better than the GPS, but the GPS with the detail at max, lets me find the fun little roads that are not even on a map.
