    Solo backrest for swb r75/5

I'm getting older, and I want a backrest. I had a ujm years ago that had a rack with a sliding sissy bar/back rest. Can't find one now, but I'm wondering if there is an aftermarket seat that...

    1. Maybe 250-300 miles. I'm terrible at remembering these things! I did another oil change, re-torqued everything, and re-set the valves just a few weeks ago.
    2. Uh Oh...
    3. Not sure about that...

As far as the heads go, the insides are clean. I had the meltdown of the other pistons, so when I took apart the engine, I cleaned out the heads. Fortunately, the melted piston bits came off in one...

It was over 150 on each side, IIRC 160... I don't exactly remember the numbers, and I recall the engine was cool, so it should be higher when warm.
  6. Oversize pistons and increased pressure r69s?

I have had a problem with oil misting out of the breather tube. My compression is fine in both cylinders. I have been at a loss, but I just came up with this idea: the pistons are on the last...

    Trash day motorcycles

I've gotten several motorcycles that were on the way to the trash. As my wife said upon bringing home the last bike, "you just made some other guys wife very happy."

    Final verdict

So it started up, took a bit of cranking, but not terrible. When it started, ran beautifully. I'm thinking that at this point, I will rebuild the carbs next rainy day (the gaskets on the idle jets...

    Adjusted valves

Adjusted the valves, and all were tight. No free play at all, just loose enough to allow you to spin the push rods. Got them into spec, and started right up. I'll check again tomorrow, so many...

I ended up starting the bike against yesterday, with the tubes off. It was a bit of a grind to get it to start, but it did start.

I then put the tubes back on the bike, and started and ran it a...

I think the value is tops $4500.00, and here's why: This bike is going to appeal to a collector; your average joe doesn't think "35 year old motorcycle!!", let alone BMW.

    I think a collector is...

I'm going to say no, becuase I took the tubes off several times during this exercise, once to change the fuel lines, and once to clean out the carbs. However, I only tried starting it without the...

No critters in the air box area - I was already in there. I don't know about under the starter cover, though. Although I did, on another /5 find a few mice in there once.

    I'm wondering if the...

    Update- now it started....

So I took the air tubes off, and hit the starter, and after a few coughs, a decent backfire pop out the right carb, and a little prayer, I hit the starter again, and it was almost like taking a...

Never brag. It angers the motorcycle gods...

So now I can't get the /5 to start for love or money. Put a post on the airhead forums about that drama. I think that when you start a vintage bike, the rule has to be you say nothing and ride. ...

    Throttle cables are seated

Just checked, and the throttle cables are seated.

Thinking out loud though, since I think I have fuel and spark, what is missing would be air. If the choke makes it worse, as in it won't sputter...

How do I lift the curse from my R75/5?

I know I cursed it the other day by bragging that it started right up after I put in a new battery. Haven't ridden this particular bike in 2-3 years. I went on about a 10 mile ride, no problem.

    Vintage Spring in Michigan

Well, for once, we have some riding weather in Michigan!

RD Hudson, I feel the mice issue. In my last /5, I opened up the air cleaner to find some mice (actual mice, not just the nest!) after a...

Glue for name plate on r75/5?

The plate that goes on the cover over the starter (the one that says "BMW R75/5") fell off a few years ago on my R75/5. I was lucky enough to find it, but I never got around to putting it back on.

How does this work on a /5?

Wife and Kid are out of the house for the PM, snow is still on the ground, and I'm getting antsy.

I finally went through a box of parts I got when I bought an R75/5 about 6 years ago. Found a...
