    Stand behind bike and "eyeball" that both carbs are perpendicular...straight up and down.

    Good point re: rear wheel spline cup...that could be toast or the spline drive. Easy to check as you say.

    I used an old wheel spline cup with a bar welded on to lock up the FD when I retorqued...

    No need to remove swing arm, just remove the...

    No need to remove swing arm, just remove the final drive from the swing arm.

    Once FD removed than can inpect/retorque the pinion collar nut if it is loose.

    Seems you've isolated it to the gearbox output side i.e. drive shaft coupling, universal joint, pinion collar nut..my bet at this point is the pinion lock collar nut has losend off.

    Easy to check...
