I can't stand the (Brown?) ride-off centerstand on the /6 in my garage. It doesn't get the bike up high enough for service and it's a bear to get it on a 2x piece of lumber for service. Plus, with...

Probably not a biggie. I don't think a whole lot changes from year to year (certainly less concerned about having last year's version after reading Rich's post.
My experience there was from 1998...
Do some research before you do that. Some act wacky above 60mph or something, IIRC. There are some that are more recommended than others.
Do not forget to get a copy of The Milepost when the '06 version comes out. It is essential for any road trip to Alaska. Wish I could join you, but my two-wheel trip there is still a few years away.
Yeah, I thought they just made lawnmowers.
You would also need to modify a /7 or later seat to fit with that tank. It extends further back than a stock /6 tank.
The /6 in my garage has a clamp but no screw. There is a slot on the bottom to release the clamp and install/remove the ring. It is a European market bike.
Can't you go back to the same office and get a different person? Or is the office that small?
Forget the "right" ones. Get the short ones from a much later Airhead, ditch the lock washers, and use a bit of blue locktite on installation.
I know of no good place for a CORRECT wiring schematic for a 1988+ Airhead. Someone mentioned that there is one in the owner's manual, but I have not dug mine out and looked. Neither the Haynes nor...
Awesome bike!
I forgot where I got my bar-backs. A&S, maybe? Anyway, I had to modify them and make up a couple of extra-long studs to work with my existing handlebar top clamps and crash pad. I...
Amsterdam is not susceptible to hurricanes.
Don't worry, it's typical for the valve train to be noisier with the correct clearances, since there is now more clearance than before.
I, too, carry a full complement of cables in my tailtrunk (well, not choke, but I figure I can get by without those). I also carry a 201mm coat hanger to adjust the clutch with the new cable and a...
IBMWR or eBay would be my choices
For dependable, high quality and reliable, I'd stick with a 1988 to 1995 model. That's assuming you're set on the RT. RT's never had paralever driveshafts, so that's not an issue. Supposedly, the...
I have barbacks on my '88 RS. They move the handlebar up and back 1.5", I think. I was having problems with my hands going numb on long rides, now that issue is gone. My bars do not touch the...
Matt is an incredible person and a great resource to the Airhead and BMW community. Our hopes and prayers are with him.
Kent,
Please keep us posted on any updates.
Thanks for the info. I haven't been watching my AirList messages recently.
All relatively recent (any Legacy, Impreza, Forester, Outback, Baja or variation of those) Subaru's have at LEAST a 2000 pound tow rating with a 200 pound tongue weight limit. Any open m/c trailer...
I love motorcycles and there are quite a few out there that I could see myself on other than BMW, but when it comes down to it, I guess I'm a BMW rider. I like the bikes (old and new) and (most of)...
Honda ST1300. Heck, I may get one anyway.
Outstanding advice from Jim. I've done the trip in a cage (driving from FL to AK) and that was the experience of a lifetime. I WILL go back in a couple of years on two wheels. And I plan to do so...
username hit the nail on the head.
The rule in our house is that one half of the two car garage must remain free and clear (not including a set of shelves, some bicycles and the air compressor,...
Sounds like a reason to have a second bike! Seriously, I'd take a good hard look in there (or send it out or find someone knowledgeable in your area), feel all of the bearings, you DON'T want to...
