    It's not broken in!

    I bought my R1100GS with 10K on it, and it ate as much oil as yours has been.

    It has 30K on it now and doesn't use oil. Somewhere around 19K it stopped. I've run Mobil 1 since I've owned it....

    Must get the right filter wrench

    Aftermarket filters can be used if you buy the correct oil filter wrench to go with the filter.

    Wix filters

    If you have fram# you should be able to get a Wix filter, I've been using a Wix on my GS since I bought it, I'd stay way from the grip shedding Fram. :doh
