  5. i switched chargers and the 'batttery life remaining' went from 45% to 54%

    go figger
  6. voltage drop during start

according to the voltmeter (which may have a delay): 12.5 vdc to 11.5 vdc. watched it during start. after start it goes to 13.8 vdc
  7. excess voltage drop during the start cycle?

    thx, march

    dunno...

can something like that be measured?
  8. tried a different ammeter.... got similar numbers

    https://www.flickr.com/photos/29251424@N00/14326903639/ voltmeter in

    https://www.flickr.com/photos/29251424@N00/14327052397/ voltmeter out

there is an initial spike to about 76 ma when...
  9. thx for the input.

the readings remained constant while the ammeter was in series for a nominal 15-30 minutes

it was zeroed prior to installation
  10. so, it looks like 4.4 ma or so( engine off current drain)

one side of the ammeter to the positive battery post other side to the red bike lead

    ...
  11. anyway. a lot of good data. back to ammeter installation

It goes in series between the battery post and the red lead, right?

and not in parallel (battery connected, meter between the battery post/red lead and ground), right?

    off topic (which hardly...

what is the quantity of oil required ...

.. to go from just visible at the bottom of the sight gage to just visible at the top of the gage?
  13. thanks, gents just ordered a milliammeter

I'm sure it has instructions but I'm guessing it goes in series between the battery and the cable. although, I seem to remember something from a basic electricity course in 1966 about an internal...
  14. thank, Don Eilenberger

but I had the problem before the meter. I got the meter to monitor battery life.
  15. no after market accessories

just the battery voltage/ life meter and I installed that after it started eating batteries
  16. thank you, marchy man

it would seem to me that the resistance to ground at the hot lead (no batt) would define the current when the battery is connected and the engine not running
    ...
  17. resistance to ground at the battery red lead

(with the battery disconnected)... anybody know what a nominal value is? I stuck a new battery (about the 4th) in my 2010 r12r less than 2 months ago.. I have a little meter installed that measures...

just me, but i wouldn't run an engine with an oil light on

even a little bit. I'm guessing maybe you could have an adequate quantity but zero pressure.

    dunno.

if it happened to me and I didn't have any oil available (which I plan to have from now on),...

always thought it would be nice

if an r1200rt's Tupperware could be redesigned so that it could easily removed resulting in an r1200r. I'm sure its doable but the money guys at bmw probably figure it would have an adverse on the...

got my first bike in 1963

must be me but I have never been comfortable riding two up. tough to quantify roadability or safety but a bike with two bodies on it would seem (to me) to be less than half as safe. it's probably'...

    high rpm, '10 r1200r

I rarely exceed 5k rpm. no particular reason...just the way this 68 yr old drives. just wondering if there are any benefits to taking it up to or near the red line once in a while. I doubt if it...
