R 50 portrait?
I am looking for a photo or two of an early 60s era R 50 that can accompany a blog post I am composing about an 81-year-old former rider I met the other day while waiting at a car repair place. If you have a picture you would be willing to share, I'll credit you as the source.
Have this from BMW PressClub. I will keep my eyes out for others.

PS: My brother owned a '62 (I think) R 60 which probably would work as well for the purposes of the piece, but dang! those Instamatic pictures he took of it back in the day are long gone...

I'm curious.......what would distinguish an early 60's vs a late 60's model on the bikes?

A couple of things that I think I see...the air cleaner, the bulge on the front of the engine cover, and the ball on the ends of the hand levers. Probably the updated taillight as the "coffee can" style as opposed to the smaller one...although, the smaller one myabe have been the '50s version before they had the /2 label.
Kurt has a lot of the things I saw (but, yeah, the taillight change was in late 1957). Also, the metal spark plug caps. The non-serif badges and separate oil pump cover (just below the front engine cover) came in in 1966.
There's something goofy about the front fender, and someone took the paint off the rider's footrest pegs. The 6 gallon sport tank is missing the kneepads for some reason. The throttle on the handlebars is not a BMW piece.
This well illustrates that you can't really trust the pictures that BMW puts out...often times it's all about the photo shoot. Amazing on that throttle piece with the cable coming off at a 90 deg angle...why would BMW have used that? And that front fender, it seems to have some square edges to it instead of being rounded at the end. Very strange...
Thanks for the discussion. I am a news aggregator of sorts. We are the Labrador retrievers of the information world. Someone tells us to fetch a stick we do, or we do it just because we like fetching sticks, we don't really worry about what stick we bring back. We don't know sticks we know retrieving. Wrong stick? Cool, I will get another one.
We are trainable after a fashion. So learning about the sticks we bring back is helpful. Oak, willow or pine; they are all sticks to me I just don't know the difference until someone or something tells me. Even then it is the fetching that is fun. After all I am a Aggregator Retriever.
...and for the purposes of the little blog post I have in mind, any of the R-50 portraits you all provided will do. The tweaks the manufacturer engaged in from year to year won't impact the content - at least I don't think so.

Mica: My little black lab-mix "Ed" will not only fetch the one stick I threw into the pond, but he'll pick up two or three others on the way back to the shore. He's a really good dog. :)

Both the other illustrations are of an R50S, identified by the "high flow" air filter housing only used on the S models.
