What can you tell me about the "Kalahari" models. I just learned that they existed the other day. Were they a South African only model? Weren't they one (if not) the last airhead models?

From what I've heard, they were the very last of the Airheads and South Africa was the target market. They were somewhat of a throw back model which was intended to incorporate many of the R80G/S parts (the popular 80's model that had been discontinued). Among the obvious differences are the new paralever swing arm, blue framework, Dakar tank and retro style valve covers. I bought mine in Guatemala where I have seen a couple of others. That's about all I know about them. It's a very smooth and comfortable motorcycle that is competent off-road and is now my first choice for longer trips over mixed terrain. It's a keeper!

Just picked this up today. Pictured next to the bike is the PO, Ed Sabin.
Too cold here in Florida to take it for a ride, 32 degrees and raining (reports of snow in some areas). I may have to break out the hot cocoa.

It's a Laminar Lip. It got rid of that annoying buffeting on my helmet.
