Hey guys, new BMW owner in the Olympia area.

Came over from an Aprilia Tuono. Finally realized that, being 6'5", what I really needed was a 1200GS (and when I first got the Tuono, what I really wanted was a K1200R, but that's a whole other story), so I traded the Tuono back in December for a new 2012 GSA from the fine folks at South Sound BMW and joined the MOA at the Seattle IMS the same day. Loving it. Looking to get into some adventure stuff as the weather gets warmer. Registered for the PSS Off-Road course coming up this weekend, and the AltRider Ride the Hoh trip in August. Will be down at the rally in July. The Tuono was fun, but I don't think I ever saw another Aprilia in the five years I owned it (no joke). On the BMW it's like I'm part of a group of friends, all with stories and tips to share, be it for an R, a GS, or an RT, we're all boxer buddies (whoa, wait a minute...).

Been lurking on ADVRider since last summer when I first hatched this crazy plan of getting a bike worth more than my truck and then riding it off into the wilderness. I'm SwissFreek over there. Now, if only I could figure out how to change my username to that here. How come I didn't get to pick???

Anyway, see you guys around the Sound and Peninsula...

My name is Jeff Ferguson and I'm a new member in Omaha. 47, retired military guy, current DoD civilian, wife, 4 kids, 2 dogs, minivan, Camry....you know the rest of the story. Been riding for 30+ years and have always admired BMWs, but always opted for a Harley or Triumph....until about a month ago when I pulled the trigger on purchasing a gorgeous 2004 r1150r from the guys at BMW of Omaha. At my age, I'm not out to impress the girls, win any races, or try to be a tough biker....I just wanted a nice, reliable bike that I can enjoy on the weekends, commute on regularly (50 miles round trip), and do an occasional Iron Butt or two on.

I was a little concerned that it had 26,000 miles on it, but after a lot of research I realized that this bike is just broken in and has tens of thousands of miles left on it. I'm loving it so far, even more so after I bought an Rockster seat to raise me up and give my knees a break.

My next dilemma is to determine if I can tackle the 30,000 mile service myself or take it in. Looking for advice on this - I have never been a serious "wrench" mainly because with the bikes I've owned in the past, I never had to. Is adjusting the valves as easy as everyone makes it out to be?

Anyway, there is my quick intro. I look forward to becoming a part of the MOA community. See ya all on the road.....
I've been riding since the Nixon Administration, and commute every day, rain or shine on the bike. I just love it.
I do have a question for all of you who are in the know: where in the world do I get a new Crankcase Vent (this starts at the rear of the engine and travels through the air box) the manuals and micro-fiche seem to leave this part out of their lists?
I was just going to call Max BMW or BobsBMW unless someone has a better solution...thanks in advance.

Loved the R but didn't like the wind noise. The RT is a little better. Mostly use the bike for commuting and running around locally but I'm hoping to do some touring this summer. I do most of my own wrenching so I'll be asking questions and occasionally pretending to know what I'm talking about, but don't be fooled.
At some point I may adopt a better name than 190885 but the site's a little screwy right now. Actually had a bit of trouble getting everything working initially and still can't edit my profile. Beth Cooper in corporate has been a big help getting things straightened out which I really appreciate. See ya'll around!
I just joined as I've bought myself an early 60th birthday present to myself! A 2013 R1200RT in Fluid Grey, with top box and after market floor boards for the bride! We have rented 1200RT's for an Edelweiss Best of Europe tour (2011) and a self guided tour of British Columbia and Alberta (2012) and plan on taking the new RT to the Gaspe Peninsula in Quebec this summer. We were impressed with the RT and it fit us well. Sold my 2004 Goldwing and am having a ball riding the new RT! Hope to learn much from the Forum on the BMW line and especially the RT!
