Hello forum members,
I'm new to the BMWMOA and this past fall purchased a used 2010 R1200RT. I rode it a few times and thought the seat felt mildly warm but in chilly central PA in late fall and early spring, I didn't think much of it. Today was the first really nice day with temps in the 80s and while riding, I noticed my seat being uncomfortably hot. The switch was not on and intentionally switching it on and off didn't seem to make a difference.

Does anyone have a clue what I can check on this? Has anyone experienced anything similar? Is there a relay with welded contacts hidden somewhere that is causing this and if so, where can I find it? Any other thoughts?

I appreciate any and all guidance on this!

The question I have, when I push down on the rear brake peddle, the servo's cut in as they should, but if I keep pushing the peddle, I almost seems like it "bottoms out" and the servo stops. Road testing, applying the rear brake only, it just doesn't feel strong. Any suggestions.

I look at this thing sitting on the center stand in my garage, and can't help but marvel at its unique beauty and qualities. I've decided it reminds me of an insect, with a stout body and thin appendages, purpose built for its duty in life. It is particularly curious and beautiful with laced spoked wheels and knobby tires, a boxer engine and tall stance. Doesn't seem right, but it works, and begs you to ride it.
I have spent many fun hours and many dollars customizing this bug for the type of riding I like to do, which is part of the fun of owning a bike like this. You can get carried away, but don't really need to.
Once out on the open roads to my destination, I usually don't hesitate to turn off on a side road marked with only a number (if at all) to see where it goes. It is usually never paved, and always an adventure. This is part of the magic. To go where ever you want. If the bike is set up proper and you have the skill and the mettle, it'll take you places you have always wanted to be.
After only 2500 miles, I can honestly say this motorcycle has given me more smiles per mile that any of the others I currently have or have owned, and I feel lucky to have one.
Just thought I'd share my enthusiasm

Hello,

I am a new member to the site and would value some feedback on this issue. I purchased a 2008 R1200 GSA with a bit over 70,000 miles on it. I love the bike and have rode it for a bit over 1200 miles. Suddenly the fuel gage started acting up. What I mean by this is that on a recent ride the fuel level did not move after coming down two bars after riding about 300 miles. Fortunately I reset the odometer after every fill up and decided to gas it up just in case. It took around 8 gallons. From there when I just rode it today the gauge, after around 90 miles of riding, registered 0 and the low fuel indicator was flashing. I see and smell no fuel leaks so I am guessing that the either the indicator on the gauge cluster is bad, doubtful, or the fuel level sending unit is bad.

Any suggestions as to the problem are appreciated.

Thank you.

Ok so i was tooling along at 80 2 days ago in traffic (keeping up mind you) when my bike shuts off. i got across 4 lanes of traffic noticed my dashboard (do you call it that?) was off, got safely onto the shoulder and then attempted to restart. it would just barely turn over. made a bunch of calls, (thanks to the anonymous book guys in schaumberg and schiller park for helping me out) remembered the roadside assist deal on the BMWMOA card and called them. Well, 2.5 hours later my bike is loaded up in a trailer and I'm on my way home. get there, Eric puts my bike in my garage ( I still have a weak L arm secondary to cancer surgery last spring) and leaves. I decide to move the bike so out of habit I hit the starter and I get an AWS in RED on my dash. I shut it off, swear< turn it back on hit the starter and it starts right up. My fuel strip fried earkier this year and it has run fine until this event. Is this how the Ring goes bad? I had it replaced 1 month after I bought it new in 2008 and have never had any trouble. Do I ride it to the dealer or tow it? These may seem like stupid questions but logistically for me its a big hassle. I cant afford a tow so i have to garner a favor and that isn't easy. any ideas anyone? Oh and thanks to ERIC from RJ's Cycles rescue, and the anonymous guys and Platinum Cycle club who kept calling me to make sure I was safe while I waited on I 290. And a big Raspberry to the Illinois State Police whose 3 cars drove by me and never stopped to check if I needed any assistance.

Well, my buddy told me he noticed a clunky sound coming from his drive shaft area yesterday while accelerating from low speeds in first and second gear. We dropped the FD and sure enough, his U-joint was toast. We haven't removed the shaft all the way (maybe will get to it later today), but it's clear that we need to replace it. All the take-offs I've found are from 2008 RTs and when I've looked up a new drive shaft I see them labeled as 1/2008+ RTs. Does this mean there was a change to the shaft between 2007 and 2008 models? I'm hoping to find a used one in decent condition, but a deal on a new one will be considered as well.

Anything else we should be checking for? The FD appears to still work fine and has very little play, though it's pretty dirty. The swingarm appears ok, though we haven't removed it yet. Bike has about 30k miles on it, though it was recently a victim of a high-speed accident that gave it some scrapes and crushed the wheels. New wheels went on and it's been about 1000 miles since with no problems.
