After reading about all the dangers of running higher wattage bulbs without relays and heavier wiring I changed it out for the 60/55w Sylvania SilverStar Ultra which is as bright as the the 100/80. It says Osmar Sylvania on the package which I guess is a good thing. Very happy with the new upgrade.

Thanks to this site I learned about pre-loading my shifts and it has helped out a lot since the R/RS is a much different animal shifting than the Monster however I seem to have a real issue when it comes to shifting quickly– for some reason I find that I cannot for the life of me get the bike to shift if I really "get on it" – it’s the weirdest thing – I try to work the gears in quick succession and I can’t get it out of first – if I am able to get to 2nd forget 2nd to 3rd. If I go slower the bike shifts fine – but it’s when I really get on it I can’t move the lever – am I doing something wrong? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone, I just have a few stupid questions and I would appreciate some help please. My bike is leaking oil from the front boot on the final drive. I removed the swing arm and there was a lot of dirty oil coming out of the housing, my clymer manual states that the drive shaft has it own oil supply ? I assumed it was the rear output seal on the tranny. It does show signs of clean transmission oil on the outside.
How much oil is suppose to be in the drive shaft housing and where do I put it in??
I then dicided to pull the tranny to lube the splines, btw they were bone dry. Could this be my down shifting problem that I havent mentioned yet?
My other question is about the circlip in the tranny, is there a way to find out if it has it in or not without disassembling the tranny?
I tried to search this and other forums without much luck so any help would be appreciated. I would also like to see some picss of a flange holding tool (homemade) if anyone has one, please.
Thanks.

I had my head bearing repaired by Grand Rapids BMW, well to make a long story short, do not take a bike to them.
It seems the tattoo 'tech' most of removed the fairing ( he screwed everything he did up) I had to take it back the day after picking it up because I noticed the damper was install upside down. I was riding the next weekend and the fairing started to wobble. I took it back, and another tech "fixed it". This work was done in the fall. 3 trips back and all I got was a long wait each time, the service manager acted like they already had my money and I should go away.

Well last month, it started to wobble again, and this time it was not going back to them. I found when I removed the fairing, there was a 16 mm long 8 x1 bolt laying in the bracket (other bolt was gone). This bolt was stripped, and so was the thread in the frame. I managed to fixed them with a heli-coil (yep a I know, but it worked).

When I was making a map of the wiring on the ignition switch I only noted 4 wires, and now I see there are 5 terminals. Is one open? or did I miss one? If you ever worked on a bike 4 months after having you back fused, you will understand why I may of missed something.

Yes, tires, but don't stone me, yet.

First, I'd "warn" folks about the very fast wear (at least on the rear) for Continental K112's. Down to the wear bars in only 3,000 miles of touring with a very lightweight rider (140#) and not much weight in the bags. NO 2-up riding, at all. Similar comments on BikeBandit website, which I wish I'd read before buying these. This on a '78 RS. Otherwise, they look good, and handle well, as you'd expect with what must be the softest compound in tiredom. Fine for blasting around the 'hood on weekends, but don't take them on tour is my advice.

After spending some time in a tire search this afternoon, I finally found the Dunlop K70 in exactly the right size: F - 3.25 x 19 for $69.10 and R - 4.00 x 18 for $73.40. (BikeBandit) These may not last for very many miles, either, but these "inch" sizes are damn hard to find these days, and are probably getting more scarce all the time. Also, I paid a whopping lot more for the Conti's, so even if the wear is similar, I can replace at a low, low price.

Q: Has anybody run these? What kind of wear can I expect? Aggressive rider.
