Hi,

Picked up a used 2006 gs. I notice there is a certain engine sound( wine as in the hear not taste type) at approx 55mph.. doesn't matter if I am in 5th or 6th..
Wondered if it was a tire sound I wasn't use to or perhaps something to do with the servo's..( or it could be the ghost of past failed relationships haunting my new found love)

Is it normal?

Brian

Are your tires cupped or squared off.

Does the whine go away in turns or changes tone.

Does it do it in neutral at the same revs as when you are in 5th or 6th

Milage, recent service history?

could be the alternator, they make a whining sound. Very normal.

I have notice an occaisonal whine from the middle to rear of my '07 R1200R. At highway speed, as you describe. It is really weird. I don't hear it on my 15 mile ride to work in the morning, but sometimes hear it on the ride home in the after noon. I am thinking it may be some kind of wind noise from the airstream blowing past the big open axle hole.

These do it a lot on some bikes. A definate whine from the pump on my KLT was quite noticable at times. My newer GSA does not seem to have it, but many others do, I've heard from riders. It seemed my lower gas in the tank made it more noticable on the K bike, an obvious thing as the pump is submerged in gas and quieter that way, when full. Randy:thumb

to utter a high-pitched plaintive or distressed cry b: to make a sound similar to such a cry <the wind whined in the chimney>
