What effect will using a different size tire have on handling & performance & safety. The specifics are that my 17 inch diameter rear wheel calls for a 130/80-17 tire. The brand tire I want to use, Shinko, doesn't make this size tire but does make a 150/70-17. This latter tire is an insignificant 2 mm greater diameter, is 20 mm wider, and has a greater radius of curvature. The wider tire will easily fit in the frame. So it appears that the shape of the tire is different but does it matter? Will the larger tire afffect braking, steering, and general handling.

A little food for thought:
The size for the RT is 170 and it has a 5" wide rim.
This web site shows the 1150GS as having a 4" rim and 150 size rear tire.

The rim on the bike I was considering for the 150 tire is 3.5 inches wide and the tire manufacturer recommends a 4.5 inch rim. So, that's the end of that idea.
The 009 Ravens made by Shinko are the correct size for my bike so, I'll try them next.

Could you add that to your original post. Would have saved me some confusion. This is a Hexhead forum.

Thanks and good luck.
