Is there a direct replacement for the BMW/Exide Gel Cell Battery, part number 61212346800, or is this a unique item available only through BMW dealers?

Power Factor Inc. (http://www.batteriesasap.com/) has the same ub12220 and it was $42.95 + shipping about 2 weeks ago. Total delivered to my door in 3 days for $50.45. A great price and great service.

The bolt holes need reamed out 1mm from 5mm to 6mm or use the new bolts and this battery is about 1/2" shorter so you need a shim to secure the battery tight. It is more powerful than the factory battery and an AGM type.

You can order online, or just go to your local auto parts or farm supply store and buy one in stock, or usually overnight, for $70 or less. I had to replace both of our BMW/Exide batteries, and used DEKA Powersport AGM batteries (ETX-14BS).
They drop right in, no mods required.
If you can't find it under BMW, look under Buell, they use the same battery.

'08 GSA here and BMW has already warranty'd one battery for me. Another source is likely for me too, if another BMW battery goes south....I did a recent cold winter ride to Texas and back in the teens some mornings and the BMW(replaced) stock battery already has been strugling on those mornings. I just ordered. My shipping was more. Total of $57.13. It is exactly the same battery as ebattteriesto go.com except for the price ($74.95 vs $42.95)

You can try Batteries Plus at:
http://www.batteriesplus.com/manufacturer/59-CC/Motorcycle-Batteries.aspx

There's one locally where I live and I've had good luck finding MC batteries there.

There are differences between AGM and Gel batteries.

At extremely low temperatures, Gel batteries do not perform as well as similar AGM batteries.

Also, Gel batteries require a lower charging voltage than AGM batteries. Which leads me to wonder if the charging circuit of my Gel battery equipped RT is set to a lower voltage than would be optimum for an AGM battery, and if this is true, is the charging voltage of the RT user-adjustable to allow for AGM needs?
