New to the RT, and have not removed the rear tire before (flat), looking for some insight, also any suggestion on a good mileage but good gripping tire thanks.

+1 Pilot Roads
Am on third set. Contemplate changing to another, but so satisfied with the Roads that I keep coming back.

Just put on my second set of Pilot Roads. I liked the mileage I got out of my first set this summer on a cross-continent, two-up ride. I've also had Dunlops, and Metzeler Z6s before.

Another pilot road satisfield customer. Great milege. Now available, pilot road II with dual compound. I amy try them next time. I got 11,000 miles on my last set, if the piulot roads II can get better they will be worth the xtra coin.

I was using the Avon Storm-ST and was very happy.. Notice I say "was".. That's until a got a flat on the rear with a hole big enough to drive a GS through.. So for now I have a Storm-ST on the front and a Bridgestone Battlax on the rear..

I've tried Metzeler Z6(original), Michilin Road Pilots, Bridgest6one B20 BatleAx & the new Bridgestone B21 on my 2005 R1200RT.
Metzeler Z6 = 14,000 miles
Michilin Road Pilots = 9,000 miles
Bridgestone B20 = 14,000 miles
Bridgestone B21 = 6,500 miles so far
I like the Bridgestones best because of the tremendous grip & performance in wet weather. I live near Portland, OR and it rains 8 months a year so I can attest to the good rain tire statement. Beware that the new B21 front has issues with the R1200RT. It's worn out after just 6,500 miles & is being replace for free under warranty by Bridgestone.

Just changed my first set on my '07 RT at 14400. Came with Bridgestone BT's. Only problem with the BT's is cupping on the front; an apparent common problem with BTs; however, the BTs were nice on both highway and twisties. Changed to Z6. Put 14K in 7 months so I'll see how the Metzlers do pretty quick.
So far I'm impressed with the Z6 (and the RT too) as I immediately tested them after leaving the dealer when an idiot on a cell phone changed into my lane without warning/blinkers/etc. at 80+ mph, forcing me onto the shoulder. The bike/tires quickly allowed me to avoid the car/bike confrontation, gave me time to "show" :fight my displeasure with the idiot, and zoom ahead to freedom at 100+ in quick order; I know, not smart on new tires but I'm here to chat about it, credit to the RT and tires.
Oh, did I say how much I love riding the RT! I look forward to my commute everyday now :usa
