Here’s my problem. The bike-88 R100RT. I’ve come to the realization that my throttle cables are not run properly, since I’m pulling on the cables when I turn the handle bars. I had a dealer replace them about 1.5 years ago, so I’m not sure of the proper routing. I’ve picked up a new pair, and the parts guy at a different dealer indicated the longer cable goes to the right side carb. Currently, the longer one is going to the left carb.

The current routing is through the “hole” in the frame on the right side then off to the carbs. I don’t know if this is correct. What is the proper routing? Can someone place some photos? Which side does the longer one go on?

Thanks

left as in sitting on the bike looking forward? that should be the longer one since it has to cross over from the right hand side. another way to think of it the longer cable goes to the side with the choke lever. As for routing well i don't know that I've ever done it by factory specs, justed a trial and error method till I find one that doesn't pinch or bind the cables. Different machines I've had required different routes based on bar hight and width.

Here is my food for thought.... :eat :drink

On average I have been told that cables should be replaced every 4 years or so, if they are not working properly or getting stiff they need to be replaced earlier of course.
As far as routing is concerned, the biggest issue is that they are not bend, twisted and running smoothly. The longer cable goes to the left side, you sitting on the bike, if I am not mistaken, because it is further away.
Hope that helps.
