In the spirit of current discussions about the Apple and Windows platforms, users' preferences & applications, and Apple's recent announcement that they will support XT on newer machines, I'd like to share this lucid, quick editorial from this morning's Times. Posting a link to a site that requires registration is generally considered an internet faux-pas.Yes, I am aware of that. And I intentionally chose the "print format" page for access, and tested the link on through an unregistered browser on another machine.

However, I apologize to those users who've attempted access and were met with un/pw prompts and will devise another way to present the information.

For a laugh, here is a link to a short movie about the Ipod, if Microsoft made it:

The unofficial word on this is that someone on our own MS branding team created this video. Geeks can have fun & laugh at themselves. There is no doubt that MS has issues to overcome in many arenas including consumer perception.

I love the Apple vs. MS debate, but the thing that bothers me the most is the Apple camp seems to have no use for MS until they buy Office. Most of my friends (me included) who are firmly in the MS camp appreciate & see the value of not only Apple hardware but also the OSX system.

Kudos to Apple for making there hardware available to XP & hopefully Vista users. Now they can compete with HP, Dell & others on the hardware market. I hope someday I can go to Apple.com & purchase a Windows XP or Windows Vista operated Powerbook. Now if only they had a two button touch pad…:lol

I think innovation & options are just what the industry needs. It is interesting to me that many in the Apple Only camp are pissed that those Windows users will have access to “there” hardware. Too bad! Now a consumer can get the hardware they want & the OS they want with out exception. How is that a bad thing?

And yes I work for Microsoft. I just started my 10th year & love it.

Gotta go… I have to get back to the geekery…

My gf is a mac girl... I used to build and repair pc's/IBM....

And it's her dang 1 button mouse that gives me the most grief! (besides her)

I am excited about the prospect of a powerbook with windows on it... (Linux is reserved for my desktop)...

Hey, how many computer programers does it take to change a light bulb?

None! That's a hardware problem!

I'm a multi-lingual guy. I work on Macs (as a technician) and trouble shoot Windows machines as part of my job. My cohort and I see this development as a potential money saver. We are a school district of 17 schools (approximately 7000 students). Through out the district we have approximately 3000 Macs and 70 Windows machines. Because of the 3 Macs, we can operate with 3 technicians.

One of the issues we continually run into is software, especially for special needs students. Most of the software that is out there for these students is Windows only. With the future inclusion of Boot Camp (and hopefully a supplied Windows operating system) we should be able to meet the schools' needs with a one computer solution - we will supply the Mac, use it as a Mac for your regular business and then switch it to Windows for the Windows only usage. I know Virtual PC has been around for years but our experience with it has not been good. The only thing we ran on VPC was MYOB (an accounting package). There were so many issues with it that we have been able to switch most of the schools to OS X and running QuickBook Accounts. By doing this we eliminated about 10 days/school year of troubleshooting. This is more time to devote to making sure the students' work stations are available for them to use as learning tools.

I currently use a Microsnoft bluetooth one. The Apple designs, from the squarish older one to the new soapbar just don't cut it for me.

About 10 years ago I worked with a bunch of guys who used to play Quake. They just could not understand the one mouse button thing. They used to ask, "How can you possibly play with 1FMB (1 freakin' mouse button)?".

Just last night I was at my girlfriend's place trying to... um... er... "backup" each others music collection...

The phrase of the night was me crying "how the hell do I 'right' click!?"

My gf told me to click while holding the "command" button.

I spent 15min trying to find the button with "command" on it.
