Jack,

Organized dirt riding into Canada is nothing more than a rumour.

However we are going to have many GS rides and routes for you to enjoy. Vermont is a off road riders mecca with easy (Class III, dirt road) to more difficult (Class IV dirt) all the way to an expert level GS ride sponsored by Max BMW Motorcycles on 700 acre farm about 40 miles north of the rally site. On the expert ride there will be cut outs for the most difficult sections. Knobbies are recommended and there will be plenty of vendors at the rally ready to mount a set.

With all the great GS riding it would be worth considering getting a set of knobbies mounted at the rally and then changing back to your "street" tires for the ride home. There will be a UPS agent at the rally for shipping the knobbies or anything else you may purchase to your door.

In addition to the self guided rides and the Max Day during the rally the
BMW Motorcycle Owners of Vermont (http://www.vtbmwmov.org/) will be offering their famous puppy dog ride before the rally. This ride may be what you heard about, it goes from the Mass/Vt state line to the Canadian border on all dirt. This is a two day ride.

For those coming early all GS maps will be available at Lake Carmi (http://www.vtstateparks.com/htm/carmi.cfm).

During the rally swing by the hospitality tent for maps and routes.

FYI 66% of the rally chairs ride a GS. We like bikes and we like to get dirty. :thumb

Working on having a GIANT map -with every road in the Northern half of the state- hanging on the wall of the Hospitality Booth. Come see it!

There is a whole CONTINGENT of hardy and fun loving GS riders from Quebec and Ontario
that we see in Vermont and Maine, I'd love to hear them pipe in at this point...

Perhaps their riding is sooooo good they want to keep it a secret?

P. S. Have YOU ever stayed at the Chateau Chibougamau????? I have!

Ray Atwood is sending me the route sheets for a 2-day 224-mile "Randolph Ride" that is *definitely* a GS ride and not for street bikes. That ride will be available to you. It's something you may want to do before or after National.

Greetings,

There will be vendors mouting knobby tires for the brave.

If I were planning on doing some of Vermonts "hard core" dual sport rides I would consider making a deal with a vendor to mount knobbies when I arrive, hang on to my "street" tires and remount the street tires Saturday afternoon for the trip home.

UPS will be on-site to ship your knobbies or anything else you purchase home.

Best,
