Speedometers, I suppose quit for many reasons. Here's what I've discovered so far; any help sorting this out is appreciated.
The speedometer drive unit turns the spindle (or tongue) when the wheel is spun; but only slight finger pressure on the tongue that engages the cable will stop it from turning. That can't be right!
Looking at Clymers drawings, the drive dog looks to be rather robust and fixed in place securely. The cable and meter are good - spin the cable and the meter registers. So it must be the drive unit.
The cable was found dirty and needed a cleaning but it did spin freely when first disconnected from the drive unit.
Do the drive units give up after a while? 35,000 miles on the clock ... and holding.
Thanks
Michael
