View Full Version : Re-installing Brake Rotors, Torque Value?
Greetings,
I just finished painting my wheels on my 1992 K100RS and am ready to install the brake rotors. Should I use locktight and does anyone know the tightening torque?
Thanks,
Rick

My Clymer book specifies that the fasteners for the disk rotor all have self locking nuts, no lock tight should be needed. I'd recomend new nuts at the very least.
The torque depends on the size of the screw and bolt. It only referred me to a torque table. Without the size of each fastener I can't tell you what it is.

Thanks Motorman, the screws thread into the wheel w/o a nut but do have a wave washer. Maybe the "wave" washer acts as a lock one? I'll just snug them up but check them after a few rides.

Clymer is missing information on the later model cast wheel for the K-series but has it for the same wheel on the oilheads.
Per Clymer, 21nm for the brake disc mounting bolts.

Rick,
If you have the full floaters, 20Nm and no loctite.
20 Ft Lbs and NO LOCTITE for the earlier non floating discs. These should have self-locking nuts.

Interesting... I had called a dealer and was told to "just snug'm up and use
Loctite". There was no locking agent residue on the threads when I removed them which is why I posted this question here. So I won't use Loctite and will torque them but 21 NM = 15.5 ft lps so I'm still unsure.

Rick,
I updated the previousl message. I though you had the non floaters.

Thanks BMWMICK!
