OK everybody it is now safe to come out and play. You can take the cover off your bike and burn the Sta-Bil out of your tank. And for those that have been riding through the winter months, you no longer need to disguise your identity by affixing ears to your helmet.
HD has declared March as the official start of the riding season.
Go ahead get on that motorbike and ride it like you stole it. Cut loose and unchain your inner biker. But you better hurry because the official end of riding season is just around the corner.

What's riding season? If there isn't snow on the road it's a good riding day, and when there is, you slow down. Does Chevy declare a "driving season"? Does the wife declare a ....never mind, bad analogy. Anyway, my brother in Buffalo, NY rides his BICYCLE year round, (commutes 15 miles each way to work) so I figure I better be able to ride with heated grips and electric clotheing. I will admit I am looking forward to weather over 60 degrees. For everyone just getting back on after a long winter break, check those tires and have a fun but safe summer!!

I was also going to make some wise crack about me ignoring this "riding season" thing that a bunch of you talk about...

Let's me check the weather outside. There is snow on the ground. It snowed most of the day. And I am in St. Louis!

There's a 'Season' for this? :nyah
Man, I better get my 'tags' renewed. :stick
Oh, but most importantly for you other poor souls that don't live in 'Temperate Rain Forest' where the deer and bear play.(meaning the average yearly temperature is 42-68 degrees and we get less annual measured rain fall than say: New York) :nod
"Watch out for the 'Hunter's' driving their big 'cage weapons' in the same jungle you are trying to navigate" Some have a license to kill and others' don't even have a license. :doh
The bike v. car accident rate goes up drastically during the first few weeks of every new season. :violin
Be safe, and keep the sticky side down.... :wave
It's not too late to read or re-read "PM", "MPM" or "Total Control" before you get started.
Everyone have a great year, and send in your 'Trip Reports'.

Well if HD as announced it, it must be true. :dance
A couple weekends ago it was really mild here in New England and every bike owner was out. I was at some stop when someone made a comment of being able to finally get out. I shrugged and said something about being over 1,000 miles for the year and needing new tires. The dropped jaw indicated he didn't really understand how that could be. :dunno

Well, so am I. You know, the ground may be covered but the roads are clear in STL. My problem is all the salt the company spread on the dry and clear parking lot last night.

Yeah I don't get the park in winter thing. We pay too much for our toys to lock them up 3-4 months out of the year. I had a friend, now deceased from skin cancer, who said he never rode unless it was at least 65 degrees or warmer. Said he couldn't wear all that crap that I do. He was a Harley rider and a contractor. No wonder he got skin cancer. Never covered up anything. Don't forget your sunscreen.

After a rather warm winter with many 1-2 day riding opertunities, the first full day of Spring here in central Iowa was graced with 8 in. of the white crap from the sky. It will be gone in a few days but it is really discouraging. :banghead
I hope it is our last and the weather allows some riding soon! :dance

To all the folks in the US Mid-West, welcome to my world. The snow actually quit falling up here in Edmonton early on Sunday. I still need to use my 4X4 to actually get out of or into my drive way. The good news is that the long range forecast is predicting above freezing temperatures over the next week. If we can get a decent wind to help the evaporation process, Edmontonians should be riding in short order. :type

Good to hear from a friend north of the border. You even managed to make those of us in Michigan feel better about our weather, which has been running about 10 degrees below normal all week. Hope you get rid of your snow, salt and water!

i've been riding through the winter, save for the bits with lots of ice on the road. it's kind of nice not having RUBs stare you down at every corner.
maybe i'll just stop riding in the summer?

The snow plows showed up on my street 5 minutes after I pulled into my driveway. Problem with that is they did not clear away the windrow so I had to go out and shovel out the entrance to my driveway. According to my little weather forecast software package, it is supposed to rain on Saturday so that should speed the snow away. It is 3 weeks to my rider course and I am hoping to do it outside rather than in a parking garage. :lurk
