I was wondering if anyone out there has taken the ride off CA HWY 395 to the State Park at Bodie. I'd like to get some impressions on the last 3 miles of unpaved road. Thanks.

First time I rode in on my old KZ750 no problems. Go slow. It's not that bad. I've seen much worse. Last time we went in with the Xterra and I blew a tire. My friend used to work for the park a few years back. She said many cars get flat tires on that road.

The wife and I honeymooned at Tahoe 3 years ago. We had a ford escape as a rental. We spent the week playing at tahoe, and on either side of the range. We were there in May and most of the passes were still closed. So one day we went down the east side to Mono Lake, Lee Vining Canyon, and Bodie. Bodie is so awesome. I had been there several times before. It was my brides first time though. The road is pretty good. Some washboard sections but not bad at all. Never done it on a bike but I don't imagine it being very tough. I recommend topo maps of there area and a flashlight. Before you get into the park boundaries you can go off the beaten path and there are old mines in the area that can be fun to explore. Just be careful. When we lived in California me and my dad would get out and do that on some weekends. Lots of fun.

It's not too bad a road. Like others have said, just go slow.

Fun fact: Two days ago Bodie recorded the lowest temperature in the lower 48. It was -15 F. Heated vest, anyone?! :laugh

The photos and info are great. I guess I have to take the ride now. I've got fairly new rubber on my R1100S and I'm traveling pretty light so I hope to avoid a flat tire. Doesn't look like the best place to have a flat. I'm making the trip at the end of April. The temperature should be a little more moderate than -15...I passed through the area a few years back at this time of year and the temp was decent. Thanks again.
