I have a 2003 R1150RS (mfg 6/02 w/single plug heads) that I bought as a project. It has a broken clutch hose that I am about to replace. According to the Clymer's manual, replacement requires the removal of the rear wheel to access the slave cylinder. The problem is that the rear caliper dosen't just lift off, but needs to be disconnected from the brake hose. Then comes repeated warnings about the ABS system needing to be pressure bled by the dealer.
Is there a way to lift the caliper off the brake rotor without disconnecting the hydraulic hose??? :help
It looks as though I will have to truck the bike to the dealer either way. : :mad

I have never owned a R1150 RS but I have owned many others and that makes no sense to me. I seriously doubt you would have to remove the hose just to move the caliper.

I'm interested to know the awnser though. :lurk

Is there a way to lift the caliper off the brake rotor without disconnecting the hydraulic hose??? :helpOn my oilhead with ABS, I simply remove the two bolts holding the caliper in place (without losing the washer on each bolt!), lift the caliper clear of the rotor, and allow the caliper to hang by the hose. The wheel can then be removed from the single-sided swingarm after removing the lugbolts.

I have an '02 R1150RS with Evo brakes. It's just as FredRydr says: unbolt the caliper and hang it out of the way. I'm pretty sure the owner's manual has the task shown in it (which is one of the very few things it does show you how to do). The caliper does fit into the wheel rather closely, and it takes a bit of wiggling to get it out.
