650 Trip-o-meter

A friends '99 F-650 has lost the trip function of the odometer. The odometer still works OK, as does the tach and the speedo. The reset knob feels stiff and wont move. We have, through digital manipulation (I forced it), made it work twice, but it just goes back to stuck and non moving. Since this bike has no fuel guage it would be nice to have the trip.

How hard is this to fix? To replace? Just to make work?

You can also check in the MOA magazine, I know that PALT ALTO repairs speedometers and tachs. I had to send my tach in to BMW Recycle in Ohio. In general speedometers and tachometers are pretty expensive new, so rebuilding them is a good option.
