I just purchased an OLD 1/8 scale Revell model of aN R75/5 and want to do it up right. I'm wondering what the factory colors were and how the pinstriping was done.

It looks fairly accurate but the details need a LOT of finese. How much chrome was there on the bike aside from the pipes, mufflers, handlebars, grabrail, side covers and tank sides. The kit is all crome save for the frame and body work.

It has Metzlers which I think is pretty cool. Any help is appreciated and when it is done, I'll powt the pics. Of course, that could be awhile as I have many projects in work and spring is almost here which means more weekends out on the RT and not just the daily commute.

Cheers :drink

Bull:- Try the 5united.net (http://www.5united.net/html/variate1.htm) site. You'll see a link to 1972 colors (Item # 7) - might be of some value to you.

Out of curiousity - if I may - how much for the kit? I've been looking for similar myself for awhile. See ya!

Other chrome parts;the lift handle for pulling up on the center stand, the seat lock cylinder, the trim part where the key inserts other than the part that slides forward which is bakelite, the cover for the steering lock, the headlight bezel, the speedo bezel, the cap nuts in the center of the rocker covers, Additionally, the hub caps are polished stainless steel which look chrome. The handlebar risers, the fork caps, the turn signal housings, the wheel rims, and the seat trim are aluminum which can be polished to a shiny chrome apearance.

On the double pinstripes, the outer line is thicker than the inner line.

In my experience, the most common colors are black and Monza blue.

By hand, outer thicker than the inner, like woodnsteel posted. I tried to find the "kit" on A&S's fiche, but I guess they left that page off. It is a pair of pinstripe brushes, a small can of one of two colors of paint*, and a template. Not that that does you any good in 1/8th scale.

*Black and white, although IIRC, some Polaris Silver toasters had blue pinstripes. Mine had black, and my Black R75/5 Euro (non-toaster) one has white pinstripes.

I had a silver one with black stripes.

Thanks, folks. I guess it'll be Monza Blue w/ white stripes.

/5 express: I got it at a model show. Some guy was cleaning out his closet. $10.00.

Also: /5 express, it was produced in 1973. I can give you the kit number if you want. (after I get back home tonight.

I'll keep my eye out for one. There is another show in my area in April. :)

I believe the following is correct:

The fork brace over the top of the front fender is chrome. The RH drag link to the drum brake is aluminum, which can be polished. The brake housing and rear drive are cast (matte) aluminum. The rear brake pedal is aluminum. The handlebars are chrome, with polished aluminum levers and black switch housings. The steering damper knob between the handlebar clamps is black (bakelite) The front (alternator) cover is dull aluminum.

The headlight brackets, frame, and centerstand are shiny black paint. The correct slider boots are 13 rib, in matte-looking black rubber, with chrome clamps.

The "correct" mirrors are round, chrome fronts, on "bent" rods.

The battery covers are chrome, with horizontal painted stripes in the indentations. Peculiarly, the color of the stripes on the blue models is a brighter blue than the metallic blue on the tank and fenders. I don't know the different combinations of battery covers vs bike colors, other than blue.

The "toaster" tank covers are chrome. The roundel is a black, blue, white badge colored with (shiny) baked enamel, attached with two black screws.

The intake tubes between the aluminum airbox and carbs are painted aluminum (unlike the later black unpainted tubes)

The sidestand is painted bright-like aluminum.

The original /5 did not come with a rear mudflap, although it could be retrofited.

I suppose, to be historically accurate, the carb air tubes should be discolored brown from fuel vapor, the tank roundels should be chipped around the screws, the fork sliders should be stained in the front slots from fork oil leaking out of the brace studs, the tops of the carbs should be brown (rusty steel), the alternator cover should be dirty at the bottom, and the right side battery cover should be missing because the rubber band disintegrated.

Hey, 1973. . . sounds exactly right for my own motor. I'd appreciate the Revell kit number - if you have a moment. Thanks! (Sorry I didn't reply sooner . . .) ` :wave
