I need help getting my clutch adjusted on my 96 r1100rt. The clutch slips if I get aggresive on the throttle. And before I blindly replace the clutch disc, I want to double check the clutch adjustment. I have the clutch freeplay adjusted correctly. The manual talks about a clutch adjustment on the other end of the cable. Loosen a nut, adjust a bolt on the pivot. tighten nut. But I can't find where the clutch cable goes to once it disappears behind the plastic. Do I need to remove a side panel? Which one?
Thanks

To adjust an oilhead cable-operated clutch, you have to be able to get to both ends of the clutch cable. On my RSL, one can access the back end of the gearbox (where the clutch arm adjustment bolt is located) by reaching in from the left side of the bike, just aft of the bodywork.

Your RT has more bodywork, and I'm not familiar with how you get in there. One of the aftermarket manuals (Haynes or Clymer) or the factory manual would show you.

As to adjustment procedure, take a look at http://ibmwr.org/r-tech/oilheads/R11Manual/Oilhead_Maintenance_2-25-02.pdf. There are two articles with clutch adjustment instructions.
It's a two-step procedure: first, adjust the knurled adjuster/knurled locknet clearance at the handlebar, and second, using the clutch arm adjusting bolt on the back of the gearbox, adjust the bolt for the right free-play measured at the edge of the handlebar clutch lever, measured as shown in the owner's manual.

If you have free play at the handlebar, meaning you can pull the lever in a bit before you feel resistance, then your cable adjustment isn’t out enough to cause slipping. Either adjustment, whether at the handle bar or on the transmission simply adjusts the free play in the cable. Basically, if you have free play, the clutch rod is not putting pressure on the diaphragm spring which in turn is keeping the pressure plate tight to the friction disk. Unfortunately, If you do have free play at the clutch lever and your clutch is slipping you either have a worn clutch disk or you might have a leaky rear main seal or front transmission seal allowing oil to contaminate the clutch disk. Either way, it’s probably tear down time. BTW You can remove the starter cover and look around for oil.

Good Luck
