Is there a forum for the police bikes? I've been looking around and cannot find any. I'm concerned about how they were maintained, Dealer vs City garage, tires, dealer service at purchase (they told me they "check them over"). I've been told civilians cannot buy the tires they put on the police bikes. Mine has Dunlops and I intend to check out their web site as I have always run Dunlops. Thanks in advance.

I have not seen a website or forum specific to BMW Police bikes or Police bikes in general. I do know some cops that have the R11RT police bike and they are maintained by the Police Department Motorpool. For major work they do go to the BMW dealer. Hope that helps a little.... ;)

I know here in Oregon, at least in the county I work for, the bikes are 100% dealer maintained. Currently they are running the Michelin Sport Pilots on most of the bikes. I have never seen them run anything that can't be purchased by the public. Those bikes get the heck ridden out of them but are well maintained.

I saw a BMW police bike on the news yesterday chasing a crotch-rocket. They guy did a one-hour-plus high-speed blast around a couple of the cities between Dallas and Fort Worth, and at one point was going around 140 MPH. A couple of news-copters got a nice shot of an RT-P dicing with the guy (at a speed significantly less than 140) on one street. The miscreant later said he was not aware of police chasing him. Yeah right...

The CHP uses BMW dealers for all of the service/repair.

Welcome to the MOA, you will find it an excellent organization.

I have owned 2 R1100RTs, one R1150Rt and currently a R1200RT. On the 1100's and 1150, I used Michelin Road Pilot tires and was pleased with the handling and longivity. My tire mileage, on average with these tires, was 15 - 16 Kmiles on rear and 21 - 22 Kmiles on front. Your mileage may vary! I also kept the tire pressure up, i.e., 40 - 41 lbs in rear tire and 38 - 39 lbs in front tire. I am not a canyon carver, but I do like to clip through the twisties.
