I just purchased a new 1200GS. I have an advanced battery charger from BMW. Will this work on the new GS1200 just by plugging it into the power outlet on the bike?

If it is the cubical grey charger made not in the USA and costs about $115 list, then yes. Otherwise no.

I have the same bike, an '05GS.
I'm currently using a Battery Tender Jr...$25.00...
I have taken the "Y" harness and installed it on the battery. (the harness with the inline fuse) then let the plug stickout the side somewhere so I can hook the Battery Tender up to it. DONE!!!
Good to go! Won't affect the CanBus system at all.

These bikes have AGM batteries from the factory not "Gel".

This is one way to go and is less expensive and will allow you to plug in your Gerbing heated jacket and not shut down the ZFE output to your accessory jack. I believe the jack is limited to 5 amps on the sport bikes and 10 amps on the RT. I don't recall what it is on the GS...I'm thinking 10 amps. HOWEVER, do not use random battery chargers without disconnecting the battery since overvoltage will damage the electronics on the bike. The Battery Tenders are safe though.
