Just picked up a "cherry" '95 R1100GS. One thing the previous owner showed me was the side-stand which, when lowered, causes the bike to lean way too far over. Seems very unstable in this condition, although the center-stand works great. Anyway, does anyone know of a retro-kit for the side-stand that can correct this?

I'll post pictures this weekend when I can finally get it out on the mountain roads of the Gila. :brad

With a stock suspension and an undamaged side stand, it's just fine. Might look alarming but shake it around and see for yourself how stable it is.

If the stand has been bent, welded, whatever.. replace it. If the suspension has been jacked up, the stand might need to be lengthened but that usually makes for a real PITA getting it to nestle in with the footpeg and centerstand.

I favor modifying to Whatever suits Your style. Cut/Bend/Weld/Shape.... It's Your bike, how best to determine than to Use?

Check to see if the rear suspension is stock. There may be an after market shock on it, or a shortened control arm that runs from the frame to the differential. This was a common fix for off road riding, or shortening the wheelbase up for sports riding.

I am glad you asked this. I have experienced the same with mine (95 GS as well). as of yet it has not fallen over. It is very awkward looking with a top box and luggage as well.
