I took possession of my new 2006 R1200RT last week. It is head and shoulders above the 2000 R1100RT it replaced. I have put on a little over 100 miles on it so far and am loving it. It has rained every day since and I am looking foreward to some better weather (I'll bet you can't guess I live in the Northwest). I have been reading this forum for almost two years and think it is a valuable resource. Keep up the good work.

Well, welcome aboard and congratulations on that new bike. I know that you'll really enjoy it when the rainy season finally comes to an end. If you've been lurking for two years, I don't need to tell you what a great resource this is. As you have questions about your new bike, post them here for various and entertaining answers. And learn how to post pictures. We like pictures. :wave

Thanks for the welcome. I am looking forward to sharing the experiences I am going to have with the new bike. It was still raining yesterday, but I purchased a set of cylinder guards the day before so I spent the afternoon installing them. I got to experience first hand removing and replcing the tupperware for the first time during the processs. All went smoothly. I'll work on some pictures soon

Hi Ken; nice bike; hurry up with some photos; if there was one BMW street bike that would make me give up my GS it would be that one; I love the new RT (the older ones were nice too; but not as much my cup o tea) Sure wish I could have both.
I live in Renton; and commute to Federal Way on my 1150 GS; I hear you about the rain; but that hasn't stopped me much; sure, it's not as fun as riding in the dry, but I've gotten used to it and I'm pretty much a year rounder. I've got all the waterproof gear and have a half-cover that I put on the bike in the parking lot so it's topside is dry when I leave for the ride home and the Metzeler Roadtec Z6's are a great wet weather tire for around here.
anyway; have fun and get out there; your body is 85% water anyway :laugh

:wave Ken,
Where are you? I'm in Roy. Like newmanr19 I ride in the rain too with the other 70% of NorthWet riders on BMWs. Over on the ADVrider site they call us DRIPS (Dual-Sport Riders In Puget Sound). I mean it's not like you can be a DRIP, but you can still be a Daily Rider In Puget Sound. :laugh
Welcome to the club and don't let a little rain slow you down, BMWs are great in the rain. That's why you got ABS isn't it?

I live in the Fredrickson area south of Tacoma. Yes, I know I shouldn't let the rain bother me but the bike is but the bike is still so clean and new. I'll get over it soon.

The things that impressed me most are the way it starts and runs without a choke or enrichener. It has a smooth and more powerful engine. It shifts like butter compared to my old bike. The electronic cruise control works great. The heated seats are fantastic, and I like the way it looks. Now does that sound like a proud new owner or what.

Hey SF; along with the drips, there's another list I am on you might be interested in; Puget Sound Big Trailies (http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/pugetsoundbigtrailies/)
In fact, we're getting together this coming Saturday for breakfast at the Sunbreak Cafe in Auburn; then maybe a ride up in the hills (probably pavement ride; at least for me as I will have the street wheels on the GS and I will be with a friend on an RT)
your welcome to join us if your not already occupied

If you don't have out of the weather parking where you work, get yourself a half cover; they work great in that it makes the ride home a little more pleasent in that you can at least start off the commute home with a dry bike.

make sure you buy the top half though otherwise the seat gets wet still :bliss

Hijack continued...I'd like to but, I gotta work the whole weekend. I hope to be home Sunday before the 'First Quarter' is over with. You guys have a good time and keep the sticky side down, I hear it's going to be a wet one.
Ken, you should show up and get your shiny new Beemer all wet and dirty, then you wont feel bad about taking out in the rain.
PS. I hate to wash my bike, because then its all clean and I feel bad about taking it to work on a rainy day. I get over it though by the time I reach the end of my dirt and gravel road. :D
Ken, we're practically neighbors, we need to get together for a Mountain or Coastal ride, soon I hope.
PM me your phone number
